Born outside of Chicago IL, Ian Paul Morrison expressed an interest in drawing from his earliest years. After graduating Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Fine Arts, he enrolled in the prestigious School of Representational Art, a nationally-recognized Atelier under Bruno Surdo. Devoted to his mastery of the human from, in addition to his personal studies Ian has taught both Anatomy and Figure Drawing at the Old Courthouse Arts Center and The Rockford Art Museum.
Admired for their academic rigor, his paintings have been featured in venues throughout the country, including The Palette and Chisel in Chicago, IL and the St, Edmunds Sacred Art Institute in Connecticut. He has had solo shows at both The Starline Factory Gallery in Harvard, IL and the Old Courthouse Art Center in Woodstock, IL. Throughout his career he has been consistently lauded for the masterful ability to marry the classically-trained realism of the Old Masters to his own unique sense of storytelling.
Many of his works have been recognized with awards, including 1st Place for his “Woman on Steel,” and Honorable Mentions in the national-running “Proko” competitions for his “Giant and the Windmill” and “Against the Serpent”. His luminous “Samson Finding the Honeycomb” was a Finalist in the 2024 National Eucharist Art Competition. His commissioned work can be found throughout the country.
